# Mon(IoT)r Testbed The Mon(IoT)r Testbed is the traffic capture software developed for the Mon(IoT)r Lab. It is currently deployed at Imperial College London and is being installed at Politecnico di Torino. ## Purpose The software serves the following purposes: 1. Controlled Network Connectivity - Provides wired and wireless network connectivity to IoT devices and their companion devices in a controlled manner. 2. Automated Traffic Collection - Automatically collects traffic from devices connected to the testbed. 3. TLS Interception - Attempts man-in-the-middle (MITM) interception of TLS connections, depending on the interception policy: - For example, under the *auto-exception policy*: - If interception is possible, decrypted data is collected. - If not, MITM is disabled for devices and destination domains that don't allow it. 4. Independent Connectivity - Offers multiple independent connectivity options with no interference, enabling simultaneous experiments. - Example: At Northeastern, three distinct connectivities are used. 5. Custom Gateways - Allows specifying a unique gateway for each connectivity, enabling WAN connections such as VPNs without reconfiguring IoT devices. 6. Data Organization - Automatically organizes data by device and tags it with: - MAC Address - IP Address - Customized device name 7. Experiment Tagging - Enables researchers to mark experiments with arbitrary keywords for easy association of traffic with experiments. 8. Traffic Blocking - Uses DNS override techniques to block or redirect traffic for specific IoT devices. - Provides a high-level interface for filtering IP traffic for individual IoT devices without direct firewall interaction. --- ## Current Users and Vision The Mon(IoT)r Testbed is currently deployed at: - Northeastern University - Imperial College London - Soon: Politecnico di Torino All labs with the Mon(IoT)r Lab are interconnected via VPN, enabling cross-lab IoT experiments. The vision is to deploy the testbed in as many IoT labs as possible to advance IoT behavior research on an international scale. --- ## How to Get the Software ### Latest Version The Mon(IoT)r Testbed is under continuous development.
