A complete framework for linear filtering of bivariate signals

2018-02-07 · Julien Flamant, Pierre Chainais, Nicolas Le Bihan

A complete framework for the linear time-invariant (LTI) filtering theory of bivariate signals is proposed based on a tailored quaternion Fourier transform. This framework features a direct description of LTI filters in terms of their eigenproperties enabling compact calculus and physically interpretable filtering relations in the frequency domain. The design of filters exhibiting fondamental properties of polarization optics (birefringence, diattenuation) is straightforward. It yields an efficient spectral synthesis method and new insights on Wiener filtering for bivariate signals with prescribed frequency-dependent polarization properties. This generic framework facilitates original descriptions of bivariate signals in two components with specific geometric or statistical properties. Numerical experiments support our theoretical analysis and illustrate the relevance of the approach on synthetic data.

Time and covariance smoothing for restoration of bivariate signals

2025-06-25 · Yusuf Yigit Pilavci, Pierre Palud, Julien Flamant, Pierre-Antoine Thouvenin 외

In many applications and physical phenomena, bivariate signals are polarized, i.e. they trace an elliptical trajectory over time when viewed in the 2D planes of their two components. The smooth evolution of this elliptic…

Frequency-Domain Stochastic Modeling of Stationary Bivariate or Complex-Valued Signals

2013-06-25 · Adam M. Sykulski, Sofia C. Olhede, Jonathan M. Lilly, Jeffrey J. Early

There are three equivalent ways of representing two jointly observed real-valued signals: as a bivariate vector signal, as a single complex-valued signal, or as two analytic signals known as the rotary components. Each r…

Stationarity of Time-Series on Graph via Bivariate Translation Invariance

Stationarity is a cornerstone in classical signal processing (CSP) for modeling and characterizing various stochastic signals for the ensuing analysis. However, in many complex real world scenarios, where the stochastic …

Denoising bivariate signals via smoothing and polarization priors

2025-02-28 · Yusuf Yigit Pilavci, Jérémie Boulanger, Pierre-Antoine Thouvenin, Pierre Chainais

We propose two formulations to leverage the geometric properties of bivariate signals for dealing with the denoising problem. In doing so, we use the instantaneous Stokes parameters to incorporate the polarization state …

Unlike price fluctuations, the temporal structure of cryptocurrency trading has seldom been a subject of systematic study. In order to fill this gap, we analyse detrended correlations of the price returns, the average nu…
