A cortical-inspired sub-Riemannian model for Poggendorff-type visual illusions

2020-12-28 · Emre Baspinar, Luca Calatroni, Valentina Franceschi, Dario Prandi

We consider Wilson-Cowan-type models for the mathematical description of orientation-dependent Poggendorff-like illusions. Our modelling improves two previously proposed cortical-inspired approaches embedding the sub-Riemannian heat kernel into the neuronal interaction term, in agreement with the intrinsically anisotropic functional architecture of V1 based on both local and lateral connections. For the numerical realisation of both models, we consider standard gradient descent algorithms combined with Fourier-based approaches for the efficient computation of the sub-Laplacian evolution. Our numerical results show that the use of the sub-Riemannian kernel allows to reproduce numerically visual misperceptions and inpainting-type biases in a stronger way in comparison with the previous approaches.

Cortical-inspired Wilson-Cowan-type equations for orientation-dependent contrast perception modelling

2019-10-15 · Marcelo Bertalmío, Luca Calatroni, Valentina Franceschi, Benedetta Franceschiello 외

We consider the evolution model proposed in [9, 6] to describe illusory contrast perception phenomena induced by surrounding orientations. Firstly, we highlight its analogies and differences with the widely used Wilson-C…

Multi-frequency image completion via a biologically-inspired sub-Riemannian model with frequency and phase

2021-10-27 · Emre Baspinar

We present a novel cortically-inspired image completion algorithm. It uses a five dimensional sub-Riemannian cortical geometry modelling the orientation, spatial frequency and phase selective behavior of the cells in the…

Cortical-inspired image reconstruction via sub-Riemannian geometry and hypoelliptic diffusion

2018-01-11 · Ugo Boscain, Roman Chertovskih, Jean-Paul Gauthier, Dario Prandi 외

In this paper we review several algorithms for image inpainting based on the hypoelliptic diffusion naturally associated with a mathematical model of the primary visual cortex. In particular, we present one algorithm tha…

TetCNN: Convolutional Neural Networks on Tetrahedral Meshes

2023-02-08 · Mohammad Farazi, Zhangsihao Yang, Wenhui Zhu, Peijie Qiu 외

Convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been broadly studied on images, videos, graphs, and triangular meshes. However, it has seldom been studied on tetrahedral meshes. Given the merits of using volumetric meshes in ap…

An Audio-Visual Speech Separation Model Inspired by Cortico-Thalamo-Cortical Circuits

2022-12-21 · Kai Li, Fenghua Xie, Hang Chen, Kexin Yuan 외

Audio-visual approaches involving visual inputs have laid the foundation for recent progress in speech separation. However, the optimization of the concurrent usage of auditory and visual inputs is still an active resear…
