A finite-state morphological transducer for Kyrgyz

2012-05-01 · LREC 2012 5 · Jonathan Washington, Mirlan Ipasov, Francis Tyers

This paper describes the development of a free/open-source finite-state morphological transducer for Kyrgyz. The transducer has been developed for morphological generation for use within a prototype Turkish{\^a}†’Kyrgyz machine translation system, but has also been extensively tested for analysis. The finite-state toolkit used for the work was the Helsinki Finite-State Toolkit (HFST). The paper describes some issues in Kyrgyz morphology, the development of the tool, some linguistic issues encountered and how they were dealt with, and which issues are left to resolve. An evaluation is presented which shows that the transducer has medium-level coverage, between 82{\%} and 87{\%} on two freely available corpora of Kyrgyz, and high precision and recall over a manually verified test set.

Finite-state morphological transducers for three Kypchak languages

2014-05-01 · LREC 2014 5 · Jonathan Washington, Ilnar Salimzyanov, Francis Tyers

This paper describes the development of free/open-source finite-state morphological transducers for three Turkic languages―Kazakh, Tatar, and Kumyk―representing one language from each of the three sub-branches of the Kyp…

BabyFST - Towards a Finite-State Based Computational Model of Ancient Babylonian

2020-05-01 · LREC 2020 5 · Aleksi Sahala, Miikka Silfverberg, Antti Arppe, Krister Lind{\'e}n

Akkadian is a fairly well resourced extinct language that does not yet have a comprehensive morphological analyzer available. In this paper we describe a general finite-state based morphological model for Babylonian, a s…

KyrgyzBERT: A Compact, Efficient Language Model for Kyrgyz NLP

2025-11-25 · Adilet Metinov, Gulida M. Kudakeeva, Gulnara D. Kabaeva arxiv

Kyrgyz remains a low-resource language with limited foundational NLP tools. To address this gap, we introduce KyrgyzBERT, the first publicly available monolingual BERT-based language model for Kyrgyz. The model has 35.9M…

An Open, Extendible, and Fast Turkish Morphological Analyzer

2019-09-01 · RANLP 2019 9 · Olcay Taner Y{\i}ld{\i}z, Beg{\"u}m Avar, G{\"o}khan Ercan

In this paper, we present a two-level morphological analyzer for Turkish. The morphological analyzer consists of five main components: finite state transducer, rule engine for suffixation, lexicon, trie data structure, a…
