A mathematical model of human population reproduction through marriage
We develop a linear one-sex dynamical model of human population reproduction through marriage. In our model, we assume that a woman can repeatedly marry and divorce but only married women produce children. The iterative marriage process is formulated by a three-state compartmental model, which is described by the system of McKendrick equations with the duration-specific birth rate by age at marriage. In order to see the effect of changes in nuptiality on fertility, new formulae for the reproduction indices are given. In particular, the total fertility rate (TFR) is considered as the product of the indices of marriage and marital fertility. Using the vital statistics of Japan, we can show that our model can provide a reasonable estimate of the Japanese TFR, and its possible future scenario.

The Impact of Mobility between Rural Areas and Forests on the Spread of Zika
A mathematical model of Zika virus transmission incorporating human movement between rural areas and nearby forests is presented to investigate the role of human movement in the spread of Zika virus infections in human a…
Estimating the effective reproduction number for heterogeneous models using incidence data
The effective reproduction number, R(t), is a central point in the study of infectious diseases. It establishes in an explicit way the extent of an epidemic spread process in a population. The current estimation methods …
Specifics of coinfection and it's dynamics
It is essential to understand the dynamics of epidemics in the presence of coexisting pathogens. There are various phenomenon that can effect the dynamics. In this paper, we formulate a mathematical model using different…
The two-clock problem in population dynamics
Biological time can be measured in two ways: in generations and in physical time. When generation intervals differ between individuals, these two clocks diverge, which impedes our ability to relate mathematical models to…
EpidemiologyA model for COVID-19 and bacterial pneumonia coinfection with community- and hospital-acquired infections
We propose a new mathematical model to study the coinfection dynamics of COVID-19 and bacterial pneumonia. Our model includes two infection ways for pneumonia, corresponding to community-acquired and hospital-acquired in…
