Psychophysical laws as reflection of mental space properties
The paper is devoted to the relationship between psychophysics and physics of mind. The basic trends in psychophysics development are briefly discussed with special attention focused on Teghtsoonian's hypotheses. These h…
Deep Learning with S-shaped Rectified Linear Activation Units
Rectified linear activation units are important components for state-of-the-art deep convolutional networks. In this paper, we propose a novel S-shaped rectified linear activation unit (SReLU) to learn both convex and no…
Deep LearningA Koopman-Bayesian Framework for High-Fidelity, Perceptually Optimized Haptic Surgical Simulation
We introduce a unified framework that combines nonlinear dynamics, perceptual psychophysics and high frequency haptic rendering to enhance realism in surgical simulation. The interaction of the surgical device with soft …
Accelerating Machine Learning via the Weber-Fechner Law
The Weber-Fechner Law observes that human perception scales as the logarithm of the stimulus. We argue that learning algorithms for human concepts could benefit from the Weber-Fechner Law. Specifically, we impose Weber-F…
BIG-bench Machine LearningInformation processing and Fechner's problem as a choice of arithmetic
Fechner's law and its modern generalizations can be regarded as manifestations of alternative forms of arithmetic, coexisting at stimulus and sensation levels. The world of sensations may be thus described by a generaliz…
