Accurate Kernel Learning for Linear Gaussian Markov Processes using a Scalable Likelihood Computation

2018-05-18 · Stijn de Waele

We report an exact likelihood computation for Linear Gaussian Markov processes that is more scalable than existing algorithms for complex models and sparsely sampled signals. Better scaling is achieved through elimination of repeated computations in the Kalman likelihood, and by using the diagonalized form of the state transition equation. Using this efficient computation, we study the accuracy of kernel learning using maximum likelihood and the posterior mean in a simulation experiment. The posterior mean with a reference prior is more accurate for complex models and sparse sampling. Because of its lower computation load, the maximum likelihood estimator is an attractive option for more densely sampled signals and lower order models. We confirm estimator behavior in experimental data through their application to speleothem data.

Online Learning in Kernelized Markov Decision Processes

2018-05-21 · Sayak Ray Chowdhury, Aditya Gopalan

We consider online learning for minimizing regret in unknown, episodic Markov decision processes (MDPs) with continuous states and actions. We develop variants of the UCRL and posterior sampling algorithms that employ no…

We consider Markov models of stochastic processes where the next-step conditional distribution is defined by a kernel density estimator (KDE), similar to Markov forecast densities and certain time-series bootstrap scheme…

We present a novel approach to inference in conditionally Gaussian continuous time stochastic processes, where the latent process is a Markovian jump process. We first consider the case of jump-diffusion processes, where…

We present the class of Hida-Mat\'ern kernels, which is the canonical family of covariance functions over the entire space of stationary Gauss-Markov Processes. It extends upon Mat\'ern kernels, by allowing for flexible …

Transformers Beyond Order: A Chaos-Markov-Gaussian Framework for Short-Term Sentiment Forecasting of Any Financial OHLC timeseries Data

2025-06-06 · Arif Pathan

Short-term sentiment forecasting in financial markets (e.g., stocks, indices) is challenging due to volatility, non-linearity, and noise in OHLC (Open, High, Low, Close) data. This paper introduces a novel CMG (Chaos-Mar…
