An ABC interpretation of the multiple auxiliary variable method
We show that the auxiliary variable method (M{\o}ller et al., 2006; Murray et al., 2006) for inference of Markov random fields can be viewed as an approximate Bayesian computation method for likelihood estimation.

Fast Gradient-Based Inference with Continuous Latent Variable Models in Auxiliary Form
We propose a technique for increasing the efficiency of gradient-based inference and learning in Bayesian networks with multiple layers of continuous latent vari- ables. We show that, in many cases, it is possible to exp…
FormStable Differentiable Modal Synthesis for Learning Nonlinear Dynamics
Modal methods are a long-standing approach to physical modelling synthesis. Extensions to nonlinear problems are possible, leading to coupled nonlinear systems of ordinary differential equations. Recent work in scalar au…
Supervised Convex Clustering
Clustering has long been a popular unsupervised learning approach to identify groups of similar objects and discover patterns from unlabeled data in many applications. Yet, coming up with meaningful interpretations of th…
ClusteringDiagnosticExpressing linear equality constraints in feedforward neural networks
We seek to impose linear, equality constraints in feedforward neural networks. As top layer predictors are usually nonlinear, this is a difficult task if we seek to deploy standard convex optimization methods and strong …
Multi-Label ClassificationMUlTI-LABEL-ClASSIFICATIONAn information criterion for auxiliary variable selection in incomplete data analysis
Statistical inference is considered for variables of interest, called primary variables, when auxiliary variables are observed along with the primary variables. We consider the setting of incomplete data analysis, where …
