An Efficient Dynamic Sampling Policy For Monte Carlo Tree Search

2022-04-26 · Gongbo Zhang, Yijie Peng, Yilong Xu

We consider the popular tree-based search strategy within the framework of reinforcement learning, the Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), in the context of finite-horizon Markov decision process. We propose a dynamic sampling tree policy that efficiently allocates limited computational budget to maximize the probability of correct selection of the best action at the root node of the tree. Experimental results on Tic-Tac-Toe and Gomoku show that the proposed tree policy is more efficient than other competing methods.

Is Monte Carlo Tree Search Just Every-Visit Monte Carlo Control?

2026-08-28 · Xianyi Wu arxiv

Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) and every-visit Monte Carlo (MC) control are usually presented as different methods. MCTS is described in the language of search (selection, expansion, simulation, and backup), whereas MC c…

Partially Observable Monte-Carlo Graph Search

Currently, large partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) are often solved by sampling-based online methods which interleave planning and execution phases. However, a pre-computed offline policy is more de…
