Bayesian Model Selection of Stochastic Block Models

2016-05-23 · Xiaoran Yan

A central problem in analyzing networks is partitioning them into modules or communities. One of the best tools for this is the stochastic block model, which clusters vertices into blocks with statistically homogeneous pattern of links. Despite its flexibility and popularity, there has been a lack of principled statistical model selection criteria for the stochastic block model. Here we propose a Bayesian framework for choosing the number of blocks as well as comparing it to the more elaborate degree- corrected block models, ultimately leading to a universal model selection framework capable of comparing multiple modeling combinations. We will also investigate its connection to the minimum description length principle.

A Tractable Fully Bayesian Method for the Stochastic Block Model

2016-02-06 · Kohei Hayashi, Takuya Konishi, Tatsuro Kawamoto

The stochastic block model (SBM) is a generative model revealing macroscopic structures in graphs. Bayesian methods are used for (i) cluster assignment inference and (ii) model selection for the number of clusters. In th…

Bayesian estimation of the latent dimension and communities in stochastic blockmodels

2019-04-06 · Francesco Sanna Passino, Nicholas A. Heard

Spectral embedding of adjacency or Laplacian matrices of undirected graphs is a common technique for representing a network in a lower dimensional latent space, with optimal theoretical guarantees. The embedding can be u…

How Many Communities Are There?

2014-12-04 · Diego Franco Saldana, Yi Yu, Yang Feng

Stochastic blockmodels and variants thereof are among the most widely used approaches to community detection for social networks and relational data. A stochastic blockmodel partitions the nodes of a network into disjoin…

We propose an efficient Bayesian nonparametric model for discovering hierarchical community structure in social networks. Our model is a tree-structured mixture of potentially exponentially many stochastic blockmodels. W…
