Catastrophic Importance of Catastrophic Forgetting

2018-08-20 · Albert Ierusalem

This paper describes some of the possibilities of artificial neural networks that open up after solving the problem of catastrophic forgetting. A simple model and reinforcement learning applications of existing methods are also proposed.

The Importance of Robust Features in Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting

2023-06-29 · Hikmat Khan, Nidhal C. Bouaynaya, Ghulam Rasoom

Continual learning (CL) is an approach to address catastrophic forgetting, which refers to forgetting previously learned knowledge by neural networks when trained on new tasks or data distributions. The adversarial robus…

Few-Shot Regularization to Tackle Catastrophic Forgetting in Multilingual Machine Translation

2022-09-01 · AMTA 2022 9 · Salvador Carrión-Ponz None, Francisco Casacuberta

Increasing the number of tasks supported by a machine learning model without forgetting previously learned tasks is the goal of any lifelong learning system. In this work, we study how to mitigate the effects of the cata…

Catastrophic forgetting: still a problem for DNNs

2019-05-20 · B. Pfülb, A. Gepperth, S. Abdullah, A. Kilian

We investigate the performance of DNNs when trained on class-incremental visual problems consisting of initial training, followed by retraining with added visual classes. Catastrophic forgetting (CF) behavior is measured…

Continuous learning of spiking networks trained with local rules

2021-11-18 · Dmitry Antonov, Kirill Sviatov, Sergey Sukhov

Artificial neural networks (ANNs) experience catastrophic forgetting (CF) during sequential learning. In contrast, the brain can learn continuously without any signs of catastrophic forgetting. Spiking neural networks (S…
