Computational Scaffolding of Composition, Value, and Color for Disciplined Drawing
One way illustrators engage in disciplined drawing - the process of drawing to improve technical skills - is through studying and replicating reference images. However, for many novice and intermediate digital artists, knowing how to approach studying a reference image can be challenging. It can also be difficult to receive immediate feedback on their works-in-progress. To help these users develop their professional vision, we propose ArtKrit, a tool that scaffolds the process of replicating a reference image into three main steps: composition, value, and color. At each step, our tool offers computational guidance, such as adaptive composition line generation, and automatic feedback, such as value and color accuracy. Evaluating this tool with intermediate digital artists revealed that ArtKrit could flexibly accommodate their unique workflows. Our code and supplemental materials are available at https://majiaju.io/artkrit .

D-COT: Disciplined Chain-of-Thought Learning for Efficient Reasoning in Small Language Models
Chain-of-Thought (CoT) distillation from Large Language Models (LLMs) often induces "overthinking" in Small Language Models (SLMs), leading to performance degradation and excessive token consumption. In this study, we pr…
Disciplined Geodesically Convex Programming
Convex programming plays a fundamental role in machine learning, data science, and engineering. Testing convexity structure in nonlinear programs relies on verifying the convexity of objectives and constraints. \citet{gr…
Hypothesis-Disciplined Multi-Agent Automated Formalization of Asymptotic Statistical Theory
Asymptotic statistical theory is a challenging domain for AI-assisted formalization: its central results mix convergence statements, asymptotic expansions, functional analysis, and regularity conditions that have a large…
DiscoverDCP: A Data-Driven Approach for Construction of Disciplined Convex Programs via Symbolic Regression
We propose DiscoverDCP, a data-driven framework that integrates symbolic regression with the rule sets of Disciplined Convex Programming (DCP) to perform system identification. By enforcing that all discovered candidate …
Low Rank Quaternion Matrix Completion Based on Quaternion QR Decomposition and Sparse Regularizer
Matrix completion is one of the most challenging problems in computer vision. Recently, quaternion representations of color images have achieved competitive performance in many fields. Because it treats the color image a…
