Convergence of Heavy-Tailed Hawkes Processes and the Microstructure of Rough Volatility

2023-12-14 · Ulrich Horst, Wei Xu, Rouyi Zhang

We establish the weak convergence of the intensity of a nearly-unstable Hawkes process with heavy-tailed kernel. Our result is used to derive a scaling limit for a financial market model where orders to buy or sell an asset arrive according to a Hawkes process with power-law kernel. After suitable rescaling the price-volatility process converges weakly to a rough Heston model. Our convergence result is much stronger than previously established ones that have either focused on light-tailed kernels or the convergence of integrated volatility process. The key is to establish the tightness of the family of rescaled volatility processes. This is achieved by introducing a new methods to establish the $C$-tightness of c\adl\ag processes based on the classical Kolmogorov-Chentsov tightness criterion for continuous processes.

Electricity intraday price modeling with marked Hawkes processes

2021-03-12 · Thomas Deschatre, Pierre Gruet

We consider a 2-dimensional marked Hawkes process with increasing baseline intensity in order to model prices on electricity intraday markets. This model allows to represent different empirical facts such as increasing m…

Limit theorems for nearly unstable Hawkes processes

2015-03-12

Because of their tractability and their natural interpretations in term of market quantities, Hawkes processes are nowadays widely used in high-frequency finance. However, in practice, the statistical estimation results …

Steady-State Analysis and Online Learning for Queues with Hawkes Arrivals

2023-11-05 · Xinyun Chen, Guiyu Hong

We investigate the long-run behavior of single-server queues with Hawkes arrivals and general service distributions and related optimization problems. In detail, utilizing novel coupling techniques, we establish finite m…

Systemic Risk in Market Microstructure of Crude Oil and Gasoline Futures Prices: A Hawkes Flocking Model Approach

2020-12-08 · Hyun Jin Jang, Kiseop Lee, Kyungsub Lee

We propose the Hawkes flocking model that assesses systemic risk in high-frequency processes at the two perspectives -- endogeneity and interactivity. We examine the futures markets of WTI crude oil and gasoline for the …

Neural Hawkes: Non-Parametric Estimation in High Dimension and Causality Analysis in Cryptocurrency Markets

2024-01-17 · Timothée Fabre, Ioane Muni Toke

We propose a novel approach to marked Hawkes kernel inference which we name the moment-based neural Hawkes estimation method. Hawkes processes are fully characterized by their first and second order statistics through a …
