Coupling Bayesian theory and static acoustic detector data to model bat motion and locate roosts

2021-06-22 · Lucy Henley, Owen Jones, Fiona Mathews, Thomas E. Woolley

We propose a novel approach for modelling bat motion dynamics and use it to predict roost locations using data from static acoustic detectors. Specifically, radio tracking studies of Greater Horseshoe bats demonstrate that bat movement can be split into two phases: dispersion and return. Dispersion is easily understood and can be modelled as simple random motion. The return phase is much more complex, as it requires intelligent directed motion and results in all agents returning home in a stereotypical manner. Critically, combining reaction-diffusion theory and domain shrinking we deterministically and stochastically model a ``leap-frogging'' motion, which fits favourably with the observed tracking data.

Limitations of Source-Filter Coupling In Phonation

2018-11-19 · Debasish Ray Mohapatra, Sidney Fels

The coupling of vocal fold (source) and vocal tract (filter) is one of the most critical factors in source-filter articulation theory. The traditional linear source-filter theory has been challenged by current research w…

RIS-Aided NLoS Monostatic Sensing under Mobility and Angle-Doppler Coupling

We investigate the problem of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided monostatic sensing of a mobile target under line-of-sight (LoS) blockage considering a single antenna, full-duplex, and dual-functional radar-c…

Bayesian geoacoustic inversion using mixture density network

Entropy-Dominated Temporal Vocal Dynamics as Digital Biomarkers for Depression Detection

2026-04-29 · Himadri S Samanta arxiv

Automated depression detection often relies on static aggregation of conversational signals, potentially obscuring clinically meaningful behavioral dynamics. We investigated whether entropy-driven temporal biomarkers imp…

Bayesian optimization in ab initio nuclear physics

2019-02-03 · A. Ekström, C. Forssén, C. Dimitrakakis, D. Dubhashi 외

Theoretical models of the strong nuclear interaction contain unknown coupling constants (parameters) that must be determined using a pool of calibration data. In cases where the models are complex, leading to time consum…
