DeepPainter: Painter Classification Using Deep Convolutional Autoencoders

2017-11-23 · Eli David, Nathan S. Netanyahu

In this paper we describe the problem of painter classification, and propose a novel approach based on deep convolutional autoencoder neural networks. While previous approaches relied on image processing and manual feature extraction from paintings, our approach operates on the raw pixel level, without any preprocessing or manual feature extraction. We first train a deep convolutional autoencoder on a dataset of paintings, and subsequently use it to initialize a supervised convolutional neural network for the classification phase. The proposed approach substantially outperforms previous methods, improving the previous state-of-the-art for the 3-painter classification problem from 90.44% accuracy (previous state-of-the-art) to 96.52% accuracy, i.e., a 63% reduction in error rate.

Neural Painters: A learned differentiable constraint for generating brushstroke paintings

2019-04-17 · Reiichiro Nakano

We explore neural painters, a generative model for brushstrokes learned from a real non-differentiable and non-deterministic painting program. We show that when training an agent to "paint" images using brushstrokes, usi…

Painterly Image Harmonization by Learning from Painterly Objects

2023-12-15 · Li Niu, Junyan Cao, Yan Hong, Liqing Zhang

Given a composite image with photographic object and painterly background, painterly image harmonization targets at stylizing the composite object to be compatible with the background. Despite the competitive performance…

Winner-Take-All Autoencoders

2014-09-09 · NeurIPS 2015 12 · Alireza Makhzani, Brendan Frey

In this paper, we propose a winner-take-all method for learning hierarchical sparse representations in an unsupervised fashion. We first introduce fully-connected winner-take-all autoencoders which use mini-batch statist…
