District-scale surface temperatures generated from high-resolution longitudinal thermal infrared images

2023-05-03 · Subin Lin, Vasantha Ramani, Miguel Martin, Pandarasamy Arjunan, Adrian Chong, Filip Biljecki, Marcel Ignatius, Kameshwar Poolla, Clayton Miller

The paper describes a dataset that was collected by infrared thermography, which is a non-contact, non-intrusive technique to collect data and analyze the built environment in various aspects. While most studies focus on the city and building scales, the rooftop observatory provides high temporal and spatial resolution observations with dynamic interactions on the district scale. The rooftop infrared thermography observatory with a multi-modal platform that is capable of assessing a wide range of dynamic processes in urban systems was deployed in Singapore. It was placed on the top of two buildings that overlook the outdoor context of the campus of the National University of Singapore. The platform collects remote sensing data from tropical areas on a temporal scale, allowing users to determine the temperature trend of individual features such as buildings, roads, and vegetation. The dataset includes 1,365,921 thermal images collected on average at approximately 10 seconds intervals from two locations during ten months.

A data-based comparison of methods for reducing the peak volume flow rate in a district heating system

2024-03-25 · Felix Agner, Ulrich Trabert, Anders Rantzer, Janybek Orozaliev

This work concerns reduction of the peak flow rate of a district heating grid, a key system property which is bounded by pipe dimensions and pumping capacity. The peak flow rate constrains the number of additional consum…

Decentralized temperature and storage volume control in multi-producer district heating

2022-06-02 · Juan E. Machado, Joel Ferguson, Michele Cucuzzella, Jacquelien M. A. Scherpen

Modern district heating technologies have a great potential to make the energy sector more flexible and sustainable due to their capabilities to use energy sources of varied nature and to efficiently store energy for sub…

Using Flexibility Envelopes for the Demand-Side Hierarchical Optimization of District Heating Networks

2024-04-11 · Audrey Blizard, Colin N. Jones, Stephanie Stockar

The demand-side control of district heating networks is notoriously challenging due to the large number of connected users and the high number of states to be considered. To overcome these challenges, this paper presents…
