End-to-End Learning of Probabilistic Hierarchies on Graphs

2021-09-29 · ICLR 2022 4 · Daniel Zügner, Bertrand Charpentier, Morgane Ayle, Sascha Geringer, Stephan Günnemann

We propose a novel probabilistic model over hierarchies on graphs obtained by continuous relaxation of tree-based hierarchies. We draw connections to Markov chain theory, enabling us to perform hierarchical clustering by efficient end-to-end optimization of quality metrics such as Dasgupta cost or Tree-Sampling Divergence (TSD). We show that our model learns rich, high-quality hierarchies present in 8 real world graphs, including a large graph with 2.3M nodes. Our model consistently outperforms recent as well as strong traditional baselines such as average linkage. We demonstrate that our model also obtains competitive results on link prediction despite not being trained on this task, highlighting the quality of the hierarchies discovered by our model.

Tractable Probabilistic Graph Representation Learning with Graph-Induced Sum-Product Networks

2023-05-17 · Federico Errica, Mathias Niepert

We introduce Graph-Induced Sum-Product Networks (GSPNs), a new probabilistic framework for graph representation learning that can tractably answer probabilistic queries. Inspired by the computational trees induced by ver…

Reversibility and Composition of Rewriting in Hierarchies

2020-12-03 · Russ Harmer, Eugenia Oshurko

In this paper, we study how graph transformations based on sesqui-pushout rewriting can be reversed and how the composition of rewrites can be constructed. We illustrate how such reversibility and composition can be used…

Scaling Continuous Latent Variable Models as Probabilistic Integral Circuits

2024-06-10 · Gennaro Gala, Cassio de Campos, Antonio Vergari, Erik Quaeghebeur

Probabilistic integral circuits (PICs) have been recently introduced as probabilistic models enjoying the key ingredient behind expressive generative models: continuous latent variables (LVs). PICs are symbolic computati…
