Extending Implicit Discourse Relation Recognition to the PDTB-3

2020-10-13 · EMNLP (CODI) 2020 11 · Li Liang, Zheng Zhao, Bonnie Webber

The PDTB-3 contains many more Implicit discourse relations than the previous PDTB-2. This is in part because implicit relations have now been annotated within sentences as well as between them. In addition, some now co-occur with explicit discourse relations, instead of standing on their own. Here we show that while this can complicate the problem of identifying the location of implicit discourse relations, it can in turn simplify the problem of identifying their senses. We present data to support this claim, as well as methods that can serve as a non-trivial baseline for future state-of-the-art recognizers for implicit discourse relations.

Improving Implicit Discourse Relation Recognition with Discourse-specific Word Embeddings

2017-07-01 · ACL 2017 7 · Changxing Wu, Xiaodong Shi, Yidong Chen, Jinsong Su 외

We introduce a simple and effective method to learn discourse-specific word embeddings (DSWE) for implicit discourse relation recognition. Specifically, DSWE is learned by performing connective classification on massive …

Facilitating Contrastive Learning of Discourse Relational Senses by Exploiting the Hierarchy of Sense Relations

2023-01-06 · Wanqiu Long, Bonnie Webber

Implicit discourse relation recognition is a challenging task that involves identifying the sense or senses that hold between two adjacent spans of text, in the absence of an explicit connective between them. In both PDT…

We address the inherent ambiguity in Implicit Discourse Relation Recognition (IDRR) by introducing a novel multi-task classification model capable of learning both multi-label and single-label representations of discours…

Global and Local Hierarchy-aware Contrastive Framework for Implicit Discourse Relation Recognition

2022-11-25 · Yuxin Jiang, Linhan Zhang, Wei Wang

Due to the absence of explicit connectives, implicit discourse relation recognition (IDRR) remains a challenging task in discourse analysis. The critical step for IDRR is to learn high-quality discourse relation represen…

Multi-Label Classification for Implicit Discourse Relation Recognition

2024-06-06 · Wanqiu Long, N. Siddharth, Bonnie Webber

Discourse relations play a pivotal role in establishing coherence within textual content, uniting sentences and clauses into a cohesive narrative. The Penn Discourse Treebank (PDTB) stands as one of the most extensively …
