Global Permutation Entropy

2025-08-27 · Abhijeet Avhale, Joscha Diehl, Niraj Velankar, Emanuele Verri arxiv

Permutation Entropy, introduced by Bandt and Pompe, is a widely used complexity measure for real-valued time series that is based on the relative order of values within consecutive segments of fixed length. After standardizing each segment to a permutation and computing the frequency distribution of these permutations, Shannon Entropy is then applied to quantify the series' complexity. We introduce Global Permutation Entropy (GPE), a novel index that considers all possible patterns of a given length, including non-consecutive ones. Its computation relies on recently developed algorithms that enable the efficient extraction of full permutation profiles. We illustrate some properties of GPE and demonstrate its effectiveness through experiments on synthetic datasets, showing that it reveals structural information not accessible through standard permutation entropy. We provide a Julia package for the calculation of GPE at `https://github.com/AThreeH1/Global-Permutation-Entropy'.

Maximum Entropy of Random Permutation Set

2021-12-16 · Jixiang Deng, Yong Deng

Recently, a new type of set, named as random permutation set (RPS), is proposed by considering all the permutations of elements in a certain set. For measuring the uncertainty of RPS, the entropy of RPS is presented. How…

Permutation, Multiscale and Modified Multiscale Entropies a Natural Complexity for Low-High Infection Level Intracellular Viral Reaction Kinetics

2017-03-28

Viral infectious diseases, such as HIV virus growth, cause an important health concern. Study of intracellular viral processes can provide us to develop drug and understanding the drug dose to decrease the HIV virus in d…

Learning Permutation from Structure Without Supervision

2026-05-25 · Ran Eisenberg, Ofir Lindenbaum arxiv

Many learning problems require uncovering a hidden ordering that reveals structure in unordered data, such as monotonicity in sorting or spatial continuity in jigsaw reconstruction. In these settings, permutations can be…

Permutation Entropy as a Conceptual Model to Analyse Brain Activity in Sleep

2023-12-12 · Alexander Edthofer, Iris Feldhammer, Thomas Fenzl, Andreas Körner 외

Sleep stage classification is a widely discussed topic, due to its importance in the diagnosis of sleep disorders, e.g. insomnia. Analysis of the brain activity during sleep is necessary to gain further insight into the …

Limit of the Maximum Random Permutation Set Entropy

2024-03-10 · Jiefeng Zhou, Zhen Li, Kang Hao Cheong, Yong Deng

The Random Permutation Set (RPS) is a new type of set proposed recently, which can be regarded as the generalization of evidence theory. To measure the uncertainty of RPS, the entropy of RPS and its corresponding maximum…
