GPU-Accelerated Forward-Backward algorithm with Application to Lattice-Free MMI

2021-10-22 · Lucas Ondel, Léa-Marie Lam-Yee-Mui, Martin Kocour, Caio Filippo Corro, Lukáš Burget

We propose to express the forward-backward algorithm in terms of operations between sparse matrices in a specific semiring. This new perspective naturally leads to a GPU-friendly algorithm which is easy to implement in Julia or any programming languages with native support of semiring algebra. We use this new implementation to train a TDNN with the LF-MMI objective function and we compare the training time of our system with PyChain - a recently introduced C++/CUDA implementation of the LF-MMI loss. Our implementation is about two times faster while not having to use any approximation such as the "leaky-HMM".

Accelerated forward-backward and Douglas-Rachford splitting dynamics

2024-07-30 · Ibrahim K. Ozaslan, Mihailo R. Jovanović

We examine convergence properties of continuous-time variants of accelerated Forward-Backward (FB) and Douglas-Rachford (DR) splitting algorithms for nonsmooth composite optimization problems. When the objective function…

An inertial forward-backward algorithm for monotone inclusions

2014-03-14 · Dirk A. Lorenz, Thomas Pock

In this paper, we propose an inertial forward backward splitting algorithm to compute a zero of the sum of two monotone operators, with one of the two operators being co-coercive. The algorithm is inspired by the acceler…

Linear convergence of forward-backward accelerated algorithms without knowledge of the modulus of strong convexity

2023-06-16 · Bowen Li, Bin Shi, Ya-xiang Yuan

A significant milestone in modern gradient-based optimization was achieved with the development of Nesterov's accelerated gradient descent (NAG) method. This forward-backward technique has been further advanced with the …

Variance-Reduced Fast Operator Splitting Methods for Stochastic Generalized Equations

2025-04-17 · Quoc Tran-Dinh

We develop two classes of variance-reduced fast operator splitting methods to approximate solutions of both finite-sum and stochastic generalized equations. Our approach integrates recent advances in accelerated fixed-po…

On learning higher-order cumulants in diffusion models

2024-10-28 · Gert Aarts, Diaa E. Habibi, Lingxiao Wang, Kai Zhou

To analyse how diffusion models learn correlations beyond Gaussian ones, we study the behaviour of higher-order cumulants, or connected n-point functions, under both the forward and backward process. We derive explicit e…
