GPU Computing in Bayesian Inference of Realized Stochastic Volatility Model
The realized stochastic volatility (RSV) model that utilizes the realized volatility as additional information has been proposed to infer volatility of financial time series. We consider the Bayesian inference of the RSV model by the Hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) algorithm. The HMC algorithm can be parallelized and thus performed on the GPU for speedup. The GPU code is developed with CUDA Fortran. We compare the computational time in performing the HMC algorithm on GPU (GTX 760) and CPU (Intel i7-4770 3.4GHz) and find that the GPU can be up to 17 times faster than the CPU. We also code the program with OpenACC and find that appropriate coding can achieve the similar speedup with CUDA Fortran.

Spintronics based Stochastic Computing for Efficient Bayesian Inference System
Bayesian inference is an effective approach for solving statistical learning problems especially with uncertainty and incompleteness. However, inference efficiencies are physically limited by the bottlenecks of conventio…
Bayesian InferenceRealized Stochastic Volatility Model with Skew-t Distributions for Improved Volatility and Quantile Forecasting
Forecasting volatility and quantiles of financial returns is essential for accurately measuring financial tail risks, such as value-at-risk and expected shortfall. The critical elements in these forecasts involve underst…

A long memory and non-linear realized volatility model class is proposed for direct Value at Risk (VaR) forecasting. This model, referred to as RNN-HAR, extends the heterogeneous autoregressive (HAR) model, a framework k…
Bayesian InferenceProbabilistic and statistical properties of moment variations and their use in inference and estimation based on high frequency return data
We discuss the probabilistic properties of the variation based third and fourth moments of financial returns as estimators of the actual moments of the return distributions. The moment variations are defined under non-pa…
