Hemoglobin Strain Field Waves and Allometric Functionality

2016-05-30

Hemoglobin (Hgb) forms tetramers (dimerized dimers), which enhance its globular stability and may also facilitate small gas molecule transport, as shown by recent all-atom Newtonian solvated simulations. Hydropathic bioinformatic scaling reveals many wave-like features of strained Hgb structures at the coarse-grained amino acid level, while distinguishing between these features thermodynamically. Strain fields localized near hemes interfere with extended strain fields associated with dimer interfacial misfit, resulting in wave-length dependent dimer correlation function antiresonances.

The origin of the allometric scaling of lung ventilation in mammals

2020-05-04 · Frédérique Noël, Cyril Karamaoun, Jerome A. Dempsey, Benjamin Mauroy

A model of optimal control of ventilation has recently been developed for humans. This model highlights the importance of the localization of the transition between a convective and a diffusive transport of respiratory g…

Metabolic allometric scaling of multicellular organisms as a product of evolutionary development and optimization of food chains

2016-12-01 · Yuri K. Shestopaloff

Production of energy is a foundation of life. Metabolic rate of organisms (amount of energy produced per unit time) generally increases slower than organisms' mass, which has important implications for life organization.…

Heterogeneity of cells may explain allometric scaling of metabolic rate

2015-02-17

The origin of allometric scaling of metabolic rate is a long-standing question in biology. Several models have been proposed for explaining the origin; however, they have advantages and disadvantages. In particular, prev…

Rapid point-of-care Hemoglobin measurement through low-cost optics and Convolutional Neural Network based validation

2017-12-01 · Chris Wu, Tanay Tandon

A low-cost, robust, and simple mechanism to measure hemoglobin would play a critical role in the modern health infrastructure. Consistent sample acquisition has been a long-standing technical hurdle for photometer-based …

Interspecific allometric scaling of unicellular organisms as an evolutionary process of food chain creation

2016-11-29

Metabolism of living organisms is a foundation of life. The metabolic rate (energy production per unit time) increases slower than organisms' mass. When this phenomenon is considered across different species, it is calle…
