Hominin evolution was caused by introgression from Gorilla

2018-10-02 · Johan Nygren

The discovery of Paranthropus deyiremeda in 3.3-3.5 million year old fossil sites in Afar, together with 30% of the gorilla genome showing lineage sorting between humans and chimpanzees, and a NUMT ("nuclear mitochondrial DNA segment") on chromosome 5 that is shared by both gorillas, humans and chimpanzees, and shown to have diverged at the time of the Pan-Homo split rather than the Gorilla/Pan-Homo split, provides conclusive evidence that introgression from the gorilla lineage caused the Pan-Homo split, and the speciation of both the Australopithecus lineage and the Paranthropus lineage.

The discovery of Paranthropus deyiremeda in 3.3-3.5 million year old fossil sites in Afar (Haile-Selassie, 2015), together with 30% of the gorilla genome showing lineage sorting between humans and chimpanzees (Scally, 20…

Origins of Bipedalism

2015-10-17

The following manuscript reviews various theories of bipedalism and provides a holistic answer to human evolution. There are two questions regarding bipedalism: i) why were the earliest hominins partially bipedal? and ii…

Using machine learning on new feature sets extracted from 3D models of broken animal bones to classify fragments according to break agent

2022-05-20 · Katrina Yezzi-Woodley, Alexander Terwilliger, Jiafeng Li, Eric Chen 외

Distinguishing agents of bone modification at paleoanthropological sites is at the root of much of the research directed at understanding early hominin exploitation of large animal resources and the effects those subsist…

Novel Evolution of the Mineralocorticoid Receptor in Humans compared to Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Orangutans

2023-12-08 · Yoshinao Katsu, Jiawen Zhang, Michael E. Baker

Five distinct full-length mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) genes have been identified in humans. These human MRs can be distinguished by the presence or absence of an in-frame insertion of 12 base pairs coding for Lys, Cy…

Development and characterization of Brassica juncea fruticulosa introgression lines exhibiting resistance to mustard aphid

2017-03-23

Background: Mustard aphid is a major pest of Brassica oilseeds. No source for aphid resistance is presently available in Brassica juncea . A wild crucifer, Brassica fruticulosa is known to be resistant to mustard aphid. …
