In Search of an Entity Resolution OASIS: Optimal Asymptotic Sequential Importance Sampling

2017-03-02 · Neil G. Marchant, Benjamin I. P. Rubinstein

Entity resolution (ER) presents unique challenges for evaluation methodology. While crowdsourcing platforms acquire ground truth, sound approaches to sampling must drive labelling efforts. In ER, extreme class imbalance between matching and non-matching records can lead to enormous labelling requirements when seeking statistically consistent estimates for rigorous evaluation. This paper addresses this important challenge with the OASIS algorithm: a sampler and F-measure estimator for ER evaluation. OASIS draws samples from a (biased) instrumental distribution, chosen to ensure estimators with optimal asymptotic variance. As new labels are collected OASIS updates this instrumental distribution via a Bayesian latent variable model of the annotator oracle, to quickly focus on unlabelled items providing more information. We prove that resulting estimates of F-measure, precision, recall converge to the true population values. Thorough comparisons of sampling methods on a variety of ER datasets demonstrate significant labelling reductions of up to 83% without loss to estimate accuracy.

Towards Redundancy Reduction in Diffusion Models for Efficient Video Super-Resolution

2025-09-28 · Jinpei Guo, Yifei Ji, Shengwei Wang, Zheng Chen 외 arxiv

Diffusion models have recently shown promising results for video super-resolution (VSR). However, directly adapting generative diffusion models to VSR can result in redundancy, since low-quality videos already preserve s…

Identity testing for Mallows model

2021-12-01 · NeurIPS 2021 12 · Róbert Busa-Fekete, Dimitris Fotakis, Balazs Szorenyi, Emmanouil Zampetakis

In this paper, we devise identity tests for ranking data that is generated from Mallows model both in the \emph{asymptotic} and \emph{non-asymptotic} settings. First we consider the case when the central ranking is known…

oASIS: Adaptive Column Sampling for Kernel Matrix Approximation

2015-05-19 · Raajen Patel, Thomas A. Goldstein, Eva L. Dyer, Azalia Mirhoseini 외

Kernel matrices (e.g. Gram or similarity matrices) are essential for many state-of-the-art approaches to classification, clustering, and dimensionality reduction. For large datasets, the cost of forming and factoring suc…

OASIS: A Large-Scale Dataset for Single Image 3D in the Wild

2020-07-26 · CVPR 2020 6 · Weifeng Chen, Shengyi Qian, David Fan, Noriyuki Kojima 외

Single-view 3D is the task of recovering 3D properties such as depth and surface normals from a single image. We hypothesize that a major obstacle to single-image 3D is data. We address this issue by presenting Open Anno…
