Linearity of Aggregate Production Functions
We prove that when individual firms employ constant-returns-to-scale production functions, the aggregate production function defined by the maximum achievable total output given total inputs is always linear on some part of the domain. Our result provides a microfoundation for the linear production function.

Statistical Inference on Partially Linear Panel Model under Unobserved Linearity
A new statistical procedure, based on a modified spline basis, is proposed to identify the linear components in the panel data model with fixed effects. Under some mild assumptions, the proposed procedure is shown to con…
On the Recoverability of Causal Relations from Bulk Gene Expression Data
Bulk gene expression profiling, which aggregates pooled RNA across cells within a biological sample, remains important in the single-cell era because it is typically less noisy, more sensitive, and more cost-effective th…
Eliminating Multicollinearity Issues in Neural Network Ensembles: Incremental, Negatively Correlated, Optimal Convex Blending
Given a {features, target} dataset, we introduce an incremental algorithm that constructs an aggregate regressor, using an ensemble of neural networks. It is well known that ensemble methods suffer from the multicollinea…
Learning Nonlinearity of Boolean Functions: An Experimentation with Neural Networks
This paper investigates the learnability of the nonlinearity property of Boolean functions using neural networks. We train encoder style deep neural networks to learn to predict the nonlinearity of Boolean functions from…
Force-Limited Control of Wave Energy Converters using a Describing Function Linearization
Actuator saturation is a common nonlinearity. In wave energy conversion, force saturation conveniently limits drivetrain size and cost with minimal impact on energy generation. However, such nonlinear dynamics typically …
