Long cycles in linear thresholding systems

2023-11-22 · Anna Laddach, Michael Shapiro

Linear thresholding systems have been used as a model of neural activation and more recently proposed as a model of gene regulation. Here we exhibit linear thresholding systems whose dynamics produce surprisingly long cycles.

Non-deterministic linear thresholding systems reveal their deterministic origins

2023-11-22 · Anna Laddach, Michael Shapiro

Linear thresholding systems have been used as a model of neural activation and have more recently been proposed as a model of gene activation. Deterministic linear thresholding systems can be turned into non-deterministi…

Topology Estimation in Bulk Power Grids: Guarantees on Exact Recovery

2017-07-05 · Deepjyoti Deka, Saurav Talukdar, Michael Chertkov, Murti Salapaka

The topology of a power grid affects its dynamic operation and settlement in the electricity market. Real-time topology identification can enable faster control action following an emergency scenario like failure of a li…

Causal Discovery for Linear Non-Gaussian Models with Disjoint Cycles

2025-07-14 · Mathias Drton, Marina Garrote-López, Niko Nikov, Elina Robeva 외 arxiv

The paradigm of linear structural equation modeling readily allows one to incorporate causal feedback loops in the model specification. These appear as directed cycles in the common graphical representation of the models…

Learning sparse DNNs with soft thresholding of weights during training

2021-09-29 · Antoine Vanderschueren, Christophe De Vleeschouwer

This paper proposes a new and simple way of training sparse neural networks. Our method is based on a differentiation of the forward and backward paths: the weights in the forward path are a thresholded version of the we…

Linear Convergence of Reshuffling Kaczmarz Methods With Sparse Constraints

2023-04-20 · Halyun Jeong, Deanna Needell

The Kaczmarz method (KZ) and its variants, which are types of stochastic gradient descent (SGD) methods, have been extensively studied due to their simplicity and efficiency in solving linear equation systems. The iterat…
