On the Connection between Dynamical Optimal Transport and Functional Lifting

2020-07-06 · Thomas Vogt, Roland Haase, Danielle Bednarski, Jan Lellmann

Functional lifting methods provide a tool for approximating solutions of difficult non-convex problems by embedding them into a larger space. In this work, we investigate a mathematically rigorous formulation based on embedding into the space of pointwise probability measures over a fixed range $\Gamma$. Interestingly, this approach can be derived as a generalization of the theory of dynamical optimal transport. Imposing the established continuity equation as a constraint corresponds to variational models with first-order regularization. By modifying the continuity equation, the approach can also be extended to models with higher-order regularization.

Optimal transport for causal discovery

2022-01-23 · ICLR 2022 4 · Ruibo Tu, Kun Zhang, Hedvig Kjellström, Cheng Zhang

To determine causal relationships between two variables, approaches based on Functional Causal Models (FCMs) have been proposed by properly restricting model classes; however, the performance is sensitive to the model as…

Stability Bounds for Smooth Optimal Transport Maps and their Statistical Implications

2025-02-17 · Sivaraman Balakrishnan, Tudor Manole

We study estimators of the optimal transport (OT) map between two probability distributions. We focus on plugin estimators derived from the OT map between estimates of the underlying distributions. We develop novel stabi…

The Many Faces of Adversarial Risk

Adversarial risk quantifies the performance of classifiers on adversarially perturbed data. Numerous definitions of adversarial risk -- not all mathematically rigorous and differing subtly in the details -- have appeared…

The Inverse of Exact Renormalization Group Flows as Statistical Inference

2022-12-21 · David S. Berman, Marc S. Klinger

We build on the view of the Exact Renormalization Group (ERG) as an instantiation of Optimal Transport described by a functional convection-diffusion equation. We provide a new information theoretic perspective for under…
