Optical Braille Recognition Using Object Detection CNN

2020-12-22 · Ilya G. Ovodov

This paper proposes an optical Braille recognition method that uses an object detection convolutional neural network to detect whole Braille characters at once. The proposed algorithm is robust to the deformation of the page shown in the image and perspective distortions. It makes it usable for recognition of Braille texts being shoot on a smartphone camera, including bowed pages and perspective distorted images. The proposed algorithm shows high performance and accuracy compared to existing methods. We also introduce a new "Angelina Braille Images Dataset" containing 240 annotated photos of Braille texts. The proposed algorithm and dataset are available at GitHub.

Optical Braille Recognition using Circular Hough Transform

2021-07-02 · Zeba Khanam, Atiya Usmani

Braille has empowered visually challenged community to read and write. But at the same time, it has created a gap due to widespread inability of non-Braille users to understand Braille scripts. This gap has fuelled resea…

DSBI: Double-Sided Braille Image Dataset and Algorithm Evaluation for Braille Dots Detection

2018-11-27 · Renqiang Li, Hong Liu, Xiangdong Wan, Yueliang Qian

Braille is an effective way for the visually impaired to learn knowledge and obtain information. Braille image recognition aims to automatically detect Braille dots in the whole Braille image. There is no available publi…

Neuromorphic BrailleNet: Accurate and Generalizable Braille Reading Beyond Single Characters through Event-Based Optical Tactile Sensing

2026-01-27 · Naqash Afzal, Niklas Funk, Erik Helmut, Jan Peters 외 arxiv

Conventional robotic Braille readers typically rely on discrete, character-by-character scanning, limiting reading speed and disrupting natural flow. Vision-based alternatives often require substantial computation, intro…
