Picky Eaters Make For Better Raters

2024-01-06 · SASHA STOIKOV, Stefano Borzillo, Steffen Raub

It has been established in the literature that the number of ratings and the scores restaurants obtain on online rating systems (ORS) significantly impact their revenue. However, when a restaurant has a limited number of ratings, it may be challenging to predict its future performance. It may well be that ratings reveal more about the user who did the rating than about the quality of the restaurant. This motivates us to segment users into "inflating raters", who tend to give unusually high ratings, and "deflating raters", who tend to give unusually low ratings, and compare the rankings generated by these two populations. Using a public dataset provided by Yelp, we find that deflating raters are better at predicting restaurants that will achieve a top rating (4.5 and above) in the future. As such, these deflating raters may have an important role in restaurant discovery.

BPE Gets Picky: Efficient Vocabulary Refinement During Tokenizer Training

2024-09-06 · Pavel Chizhov, Catherine Arnett, Elizaveta Korotkova, Ivan P. Yamshchikov

Language models can largely benefit from efficient tokenization. However, they still mostly utilize the classical BPE algorithm, a simple and reliable method. This has been shown to cause such issues as under-trained tok…

Spatial Distribution of Data Capacity for the Reduction of Number of Repeaters in Ultra Long-Haul Links

2024-01-30 · Smaranika Swain, Christian Koefoed Schou, Metodi Plamenov Yankov, Michael Galili 외

We present a novel method to reduce the number of repeaters and amplifiers in trans-oceanic links by distributing a given data capacity in spatial channels. We analytically, numerically and experimentally demonstrate the…

Adversarial Reinforcement Learning Framework for ESP Cheater Simulation

2025-09-29 · Inkyu Park, Jeong-Gwan Lee, Taehwan Kwon, Juheon Choi 외 arxiv

Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP) cheats, which reveal hidden in-game information such as enemy locations, are difficult to detect because their effects are not directly observable in player behavior. The lack of observable…

Reciprocity Calibration of Dual-Antenna Repeaters

2024-03-26 · Erik G. Larsson, Joao Vieira, Pål Frenger

We present a reciprocity calibration method for dual-antenna repeaters in wireless networks. The method uses bi-directional measurements between two network nodes, A and B, where for each bi-directional measurement, the …

CoDefeater: Using LLMs To Find Defeaters in Assurance Cases

2024-07-18 · Usman Gohar, Michael C. Hunter, Robyn R. Lutz, Myra B. Cohen

Constructing assurance cases is a widely used, and sometimes required, process toward demonstrating that safety-critical systems will operate safely in their planned environment. To mitigate the risk of errors and missin…
