Polaratio: A magnitude-contingent monotonic correlation metric and its improvements to scRNA-seq clustering

2020-12-20 · Victor Wang, Pietro Antonio Cicalese, Anto Sam Crosslee Louis Sam Titus, Chandra Mohan

Motivation: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technologies and analysis tools have allowed researchers to achieve remarkably detailed understandings of the roles and relationships between cells and genes. However, conventional distance metrics, such as Euclidean, Pearson, and Spearman distances, fail to simultaneously take into account the high dimensionality, monotonicity, and magnitude of gene expression data. To address several shortcomings in these commonly used metrics, we present a magnitude-contingent monotonic correlation metric called Polaratio which is designed to enhance the quality of scRNA-seq data analysis. Results: We integrate three state-of-the-art interpretable clustering algorithms – Single-Cell Consensus Clustering (SC3), Hierarchical Clustering (HC), and K-Medoids (KM) – through a consensus cell clustering procedure, which we evaluate on various biological datasets to benchmark Polaratio against several well-known metrics. Our results demonstrate Polaratio’s ability to improve the accuracy of cell clustering on 5 out of 7 publicly available datasets. Valuation of contingent claims with short selling bans under an equal-risk pricing framework

2019-10-11 · Guiyuan Ma, Song-Ping Zhu, Ivan Guo

This paper studies the valuation of European contingent claims with short selling bans under the equal risk pricing (ERP) framework proposed in Guo and Zhu (2017) where analytical pricing formulae were derived in the cas…

Twofold Multiprior Preferences and Failures of Contingent Reasoning

2020-12-29 · Federico Echenique, Masaki Miyashita, Yuta Nakamura, Luciano Pomatto 외

We propose a model of incomplete \textit{twofold multiprior preferences}, in which an act $f$ is ranked above an act $g$ only when $f$ provides higher utility in a worst-case scenario than what $g$ provides in a best-cas…

Is Monotonic Sampling Necessary in Diffusion Models?

2026-05-12 · Muhammad Haris Khan arxiv

Diffusion models generate samples by iteratively denoising a Gaussian prior, traversing a sequence of noise levels that, in every published sampler, decreases monotonically. Six years of intensive work has refined nearly…

All Routes Lead to Collapse

Attention sinks, representation collapse, and norm stratification are treated as transformer-specific pathologies. We show they are not specific to attention: they are what content-based routing does under a fixed simila…

Optimal investment and contingent claim valuation with exponential disutility under proportional transaction costs

2019-09-13 · Alet Roux, Zhikang Xu

We consider indifference pricing of contingent claims consisting of payment flows in a discrete time model with proportional transaction costs and under exponential disutility. This setting covers utility maximisation as…
