Predation by Atractosteus tropicus on Bufo marinus and its possible affect on population in a lowland tropical wet rainforest
Fish predation can affect amphibian populations. Most examples report invasive fish species and their negative effect on specific amphibians. Here we provide an occurrence of natural fish predation by the tropical gar Atractosteus tropicus on the cane toad Bufo marinus. We observed physical damage caused by A. tropicus attacking B. marinus. When adult B. marinus were removed from the population subadult toads refilled the adults niche, resupplementing the population. Local observations of predation by fish on amphibians are important to differentiate natural population fluctuations from amphibian population declines.

Predator interference effects on biological control: The "paradox" of the generalist predator revisited
An interesting conundrum in biological control questions the efficiency of generalist predators as biological control agents. Theory suggests, generalist predators are poor agents for biological control, primarily due to…
Evaluating the potential impacts of grey seal predation and fishery bycatch/discards on cod productivity on the Western Scotian Shelf and in the Bay of Fundy
The recovery of many groundfish stocks throughout the Northwest Atlantic has been impeded by elevated natural (i.e., non-fishing) mortality (M) among older/larger individuals. The causes of elevated mortality are not wel…
Weak species in rock-paper-scissors models
In this letter, we investigate the population dynamics in a May-Leonard formulation of the rock-paper-scissors game in which one or two species, which we shall refer to as "weak", have a reduced predation or reproduction…
On the evolutionary emergence of predation
In models for the evolution of predation from initially purely competitive species interactions, the propensity of predation is most often assumed to be a direct consequence of the relative morphological and physiologica…
Molecular detection and antimicrobial activity of Endophytic fungi isolated from a medical plant Rosmarinus officinalis
Endophytes are tiny organisms present in living tissues of distinct plants and have been extensively studied for their endophytic microbial complement. Roots of Rosmarinus officinalis were subjected to the isolation of e…
