Preventing Author Profiling through Zero-Shot Multilingual Back-Translation

2021-09-19 · EMNLP 2021 11 · David Ifeoluwa Adelani, Miaoran Zhang, Xiaoyu Shen, Ali Davody, Thomas Kleinbauer, Dietrich Klakow

Documents as short as a single sentence may inadvertently reveal sensitive information about their authors, including e.g. their gender or ethnicity. Style transfer is an effective way of transforming texts in order to remove any information that enables author profiling. However, for a number of current state-of-the-art approaches the improved privacy is accompanied by an undesirable drop in the down-stream utility of the transformed data. In this paper, we propose a simple, zero-shot way to effectively lower the risk of author profiling through multilingual back-translation using off-the-shelf translation models. We compare our models with five representative text style transfer models on three datasets across different domains. Results from both an automatic and a human evaluation show that our approach achieves the best overall performance while requiring no training data. We are able to lower the adversarial prediction of gender and race by up to $22\%$ while retaining $95\%$ of the original utility on downstream tasks.

Zero and Few-shot Learning for Author Profiling

2022-04-22 · Mara Chinea-Rios, Thomas Müller, Gretel Liz De la Peña Sarracén, Francisco Rangel 외

Author profiling classifies author characteristics by analyzing how language is shared among people. In this work, we study that task from a low-resource viewpoint: using little or no training data. We explore different …

Probing Cultural Signals in Large Language Models through Author Profiling

2026-03-17 · Valentin Lafargue, Ariel Guerra-Adames, Emmanuelle Claeys, Elouan Vuichard 외 arxiv

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in applications with societal impact, raising concerns about the cultural biases they encode. We probe these representations by evaluating whether LLMs can perform a…

VoiceMark: Zero-Shot Voice Cloning-Resistant Watermarking Approach Leveraging Speaker-Specific Latents

2025-05-27 · Haiyun Li, Zhiyong Wu, XiaoFeng Xie, Jingran Xie 외

Voice cloning (VC)-resistant watermarking is an emerging technique for tracing and preventing unauthorized cloning. Existing methods effectively trace traditional VC models by training them on watermarked audio but fail …
