Quantum Memory of Musical Compositions
The perception and appreciation of beauty in a musical composition appears as being related to the amount of memory and balance between expectation and surprise. In this study, we use a formal computing tool derived from quantum mechanics and adapted to music, to measure the degree of memory of orchestral music, including Liebestod by R. Wagner. We discuss our results and further lines of research.

A Quantum Natural Language Processing Approach to Musical Intelligence
There has been tremendous progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for music, in particular for musical composition and access to large databases for commercialisation through the Internet. We are interested in further a…
Density Matrix RNN (DM-RNN): A Quantum Information Theoretic Framework for Modeling Musical Context and Polyphony
Classical Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) summarize musical context into a deterministic hidden state vector, imposing an information bottleneck that fails to capture the inherent ambiguity in music. We propose the Dens…
Recognizing Concepts and Recognizing Musical Themes. A Quantum Semantic Analysis
How are abstract concepts and musical themes recognized on the basis of some previous experience? It is interesting to compare the different behaviors of human and of artificial intelligences with respect to this problem…
Music Transformer
Music relies heavily on repetition to build structure and meaning. Self-reference occurs on multiple timescales, from motifs to phrases to reusing of entire sections of music, such as in pieces with ABA structure. The Tr…

This paper presents an approach that combines Human-In-The-Loop Reinforcement Learning (HITL RL) with principles derived from music theory to facilitate real-time generation of musical compositions. HITL RL, previously e…
