Random Matrix Improved Covariance Estimation for a Large Class of Metrics

2019-02-07 · Malik Tiomoko, Florent Bouchard, Guillaume Ginholac, Romain Couillet

Relying on recent advances in statistical estimation of covariance distances based on random matrix theory, this article proposes an improved covariance and precision matrix estimation for a wide family of metrics. The method is shown to largely outperform the sample covariance matrix estimate and to compete with state-of-the-art methods, while at the same time being computationally simpler. Applications to linear and quadratic discriminant analyses also demonstrate significant gains, therefore suggesting practical interest to statistical machine learning.

Improved Covariance Matrix Estimator using Shrinkage Transformation and Random Matrix Theory

2019-12-08 · Samruddhi Deshmukh, Amartansh Dubey

One of the major challenges in multivariate analysis is the estimation of population covariance matrix from sample covariance matrix (SCM). Most recent covariance matrix estimators use either shrinkage transformations or…

Active covariance estimation by random sub-sampling of variables

2018-04-04 · Eduardo Pavez, Antonio Ortega

We study covariance matrix estimation for the case of partially observed random vectors, where different samples contain different subsets of vector coordinates. Each observation is the product of the variable of interes…

Estimation of the sample covariance matrix from compressive measurements

2015-12-30 · Farhad Pourkamali-Anaraki

This paper focuses on the estimation of the sample covariance matrix from low-dimensional random projections of data known as compressive measurements. In particular, we present an unbiased estimator to extract the covar…

Estimating a common covariance matrix for network meta-analysis of gene expression datasets in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

2015-03-27 · Anders Ellern Bilgrau, Rasmus Froberg Brøndum, Poul Svante Eriksen, Karen Dybkær 외

The estimation of covariance matrices of gene expressions has many applications in cancer systems biology. Many gene expression studies, however, are hampered by low sample size and it has therefore become popular to inc…

A Large-dimensional Analysis of ESPRIT DoA Estimation: Inconsistency and a Correction via RMT

2025-01-06 · Zhengyu Wang, Wei Yang, Xiaoyi Mai, Zenan Ling 외

In this paper, we perform asymptotic analyses of the widely used ESPRIT direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimator for large arrays, where the array size $N$ and the number of snapshots $T$ grow to infinity at the same pace. I…
