Scoring Rules for Performative Binary Prediction

2022-07-05 · Alan Chan

We construct a model of expert prediction where predictions can influence the state of the world. Under this model, we show through theoretical and numerical results that proper scoring rules can incentivize experts to manipulate the world with their predictions. We also construct a simple class of scoring rules that avoids this problem.

Incentivizing honest performative predictions with proper scoring rules

2023-05-28 · Caspar Oesterheld, Johannes Treutlein, Emery Cooper, Rubi Hudson

Proper scoring rules incentivize experts to accurately report beliefs, assuming predictions cannot influence outcomes. We relax this assumption and investigate incentives when predictions are performative, i.e., when the…

Conditional Forecasts and Proper Scoring Rules for Reliable and Accurate Performative Predictions

2025-10-24 · Philip Boeken, Onno Zoeter, Joris M. Mooij arxiv

Performative predictions are forecasts which influence the outcomes they aim to predict, undermining the existence of correct forecasts and standard methods of elicitation and estimation. We show that conditioning foreca…

Making Decisions under Outcome Performativity

2022-10-04 · Michael P. Kim, Juan C. Perdomo

Decision-makers often act in response to data-driven predictions, with the goal of achieving favorable outcomes. In such settings, predictions don't passively forecast the future; instead, predictions actively shape the …

On the Impact of Performative Risk Minimization for Binary Random Variables

2025-02-04 · Nikita Tsoy, Ivan Kirev, Negin Rahimiyazdi, Nikola Konstantinov

Performativity, the phenomenon where outcomes are influenced by predictions, is particularly prevalent in social contexts where individuals strategically respond to a deployed model. In order to preserve the high accurac…

Logical Expressivity and Explanations for Monotonic GNNs with Scoring Functions

2025-08-14 · Matthew Morris, David J. Tena Cucala, Bernardo Cuenca Grau arxiv

Graph neural networks (GNNs) are often used for the task of link prediction: predicting missing binary facts in knowledge graphs (KGs). To address the lack of explainability of GNNs on KGs, recent works extract Datalog r…
