Sequential Ski Rental Problem

2021-04-13 · Anant Shah, Arun Rajkumar

The classical 'buy or rent' ski-rental problem was recently considered in the setting where multiple experts (such as Machine Learning algorithms) advice on the length of the ski season. Here, robust algorithms were developed with improved theoretical performance over adversarial scenarios where such expert predictions were unavailable. We consider a variant of this problem which we call the 'sequential ski-rental' problem. Here, a sequence of ski-rental problems has to be solved in an online fashion where both the buy cost and the length of the ski season are unknown to the learner. The learner has access to two sets of experts, one set who advise on the true cost of buying the ski and another set who advise on the length of the ski season. Under certain stochastic assumptions on the experts who predict the buy costs, we develop online algorithms and prove regret bounds for the same. Our experimental evaluations confirm our theoretical results.

Improving Online Rent-or-Buy Algorithms with Sequential Decision Making and ML Predictions

2020-12-01 · NeurIPS 2020 12 · Soumya Banerjee

In this work we study online rent-or-buy problems as a sequential decision making problem. We show how one can integrate predictions, typically coming from a machine learning (ML) setup, into this framework. Specifically…

On Optimal Consistency-Robustness Trade-Off for Learning-Augmented Multi-Option Ski Rental

2023-12-05 · Yongho Shin, Changyeol Lee, Hyung-Chan An

The learning-augmented multi-option ski rental problem generalizes the classical ski rental problem in two ways: the algorithm is provided with a prediction on the number of days we can ski, and the ski rental options no…

A Multi-Source Information Learning Framework for Airbnb Price Prediction

2023-01-01 · Lu Jiang, Yuanhan Li, Na Luo, Jianan Wang 외

With the development of technology and sharing economy, Airbnb as a famous short-term rental platform, has become the first choice for many young people to select. The issue of Airbnb's pricing has always been a problem …

Improved Learning-Augmented Algorithms for the Multi-Option Ski Rental Problem via Best-Possible Competitive Analysis

2023-02-14 · Yongho Shin, Changyeol Lee, Gukryeol Lee, Hyung-Chan An

In this paper, we present improved learning-augmented algorithms for the multi-option ski rental problem. Learning-augmented algorithms take ML predictions as an added part of the input and incorporates these predictions…

Predicting Listing Prices In Dynamic Short Term Rental Markets Using Machine Learning Models

2023-08-14 · Sam Chapman, Seifey Mohammad, Kimberly Villegas

Our research group wanted to take on the difficult task of predicting prices in a dynamic market. And short term rentals such as Airbnb listings seemed to be the perfect proving ground to do such a thing. Airbnb has revo…
