Sword and Shield: Uses and Strategies of LLMs in Navigating Disinformation

2025-06-08 · Gionnieve Lim, Bryan Chen Zhengyu Tan, Kellie Yu Hui Sim, Weiyan Shi, Ming Hui Chew, Ming Shan Hee, Roy Ka-Wei Lee, Simon T. Perrault, Kenny Tsu Wei Choo

The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) presents a dual challenge in the fight against disinformation. These powerful tools, capable of generating human-like text at scale, can be weaponised to produce sophisticated and persuasive disinformation, yet they also hold promise for enhancing detection and mitigation strategies. This paper investigates the complex dynamics between LLMs and disinformation through a communication game that simulates online forums, inspired by the game Werewolf, with 25 participants. We analyse how Disinformers, Moderators, and Users leverage LLMs to advance their goals, revealing both the potential for misuse and combating disinformation. Our findings highlight the varying uses of LLMs depending on the participants' roles and strategies, underscoring the importance of understanding their effectiveness in this context. We conclude by discussing implications for future LLM development and online platform design, advocating for a balanced approach that empowers users and fosters trust while mitigating the risks of LLM-assisted disinformation.

PassGPT: Password Modeling and (Guided) Generation with Large Language Models

2023-06-02 · Javier Rando, Fernando Perez-Cruz, Briland Hitaj

Large language models (LLMs) successfully model natural language from vast amounts of text without the need for explicit supervision. In this paper, we investigate the efficacy of LLMs in modeling passwords. We present P…

The Sword, Shield, and Achilles' Heel: Characterizing the Linguistic Inductive Bias of Large Language Models for Spatial Reasoning in Navigation Planning

2026-05-29 · Xudong Zhang, Jian Yang, Shengkai Wang, Jiangpeng Tian 외 arxiv

Large Language Model (LLM)-based navigation systems commonly construct explicit spatial representations (e.g., topological graphs, semantic raster maps) and translate them into textual descriptions as LLMs' inputs. Howev…

Automating construction safety inspections using a multi-modal vision-language RAG framework

2025-10-05 · Chenxin Wang, Elyas Asadi Shamsabadi, Zhaohui Chen, Luming Shen 외 arxiv

Conventional construction safety inspection methods are often inefficient as they require navigating through large volume of information. Recent advances in large vision-language models (LVLMs) provide opportunities to a…

Stress-Testing Capability Elicitation With Password-Locked Models

2024-05-29 · Ryan Greenblatt, Fabien Roger, Dmitrii Krasheninnikov, David Krueger

To determine the safety of large language models (LLMs), AI developers must be able to assess their dangerous capabilities. But simple prompting strategies often fail to elicit an LLM's full capabilities. One way to elic…
