Synthesis of Event-triggered Controllers for SIRS Epidemic Models

2023-10-14 · Lichen Ding, Kazumune Hashimoto, Shigemasa Takai

In this paper, we investigate the problem of mitigating epidemics by applying an event-triggered control strategy. We consider a susceptible-infected-removed-susceptible (SIRS) model, which builds upon the foundational SIR model by accounting for reinfection cases. The event-triggered control strategy is formulated based on the condition in which the control input (e.g., the level of public measures) is updated only when the fraction of the infected subjects changes over a designed threshold. To synthesize the event-triggered controller, we leverage the notion of a symbolic model, which represents an abstracted expression of the transition system associated with the SIRS model under the event-triggered control strategy. %The symbolic model is constructed based on an approximate alternating simulation relation. Then, by employing safety and reachability games, two event-triggered controllers are synthesized to ensure a desired specification, which is more sophisticated than the one given in previous works. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated through numerical simulations.

Extending SIRS epidemics to allow for gradual waning of immunity

2022-11-16 · Mohamed El Khalifi, Tom Britton

SIRS epidemic models assume that individual immunity (from infection and vaccination) wanes in one big leap, from complete immunity to complete susceptibility. For many diseases immunity on the contrary wanes gradually, …

Greedy Synthesis of Event- and Self-Triggered Controls with Control Lyapunov-Barrier Function

This paper addresses the co-design problem of control inputs and execution decisions for event- and self-triggered controls subject to constraints given by the control Lyapunov function and control barrier function. The …

We propose novel event-triggered synergistic controllers for nonlinear continuous-time plants by incorporating event-triggered control into stabilizing synergistic controllers. We highlight that a naive application of co…

Lyapunov Event-triggered Stabilization with a Known Convergence Rate

A constructive tool of nonlinear control systems design, the method of Control Lyapunov Functions (CLF) has found numerous applications in stabilization problems for continuous time, discrete-time and hybrid systems. In …

SIRS epidemics with individual heterogeneity of immunity waning

2023-11-01 · Mohamed El Khalifi, Tom Britton

We analyse an extended SIRS epidemic model in which immunity at the individual level wanes gradually at exponential rate, but where the waning rate may differ between individuals, for instance as an effect of differences…
