Technical Problems With "Programmable self-assembly in a thousand-robot swarm"

2017-08-10 · Muaz A. Niazi

Rubenstein et al. present an interesting system of programmable self-assembled structure formation using 1000 Kilobot robots. The paper claims to advance work in artificial swarms similar to capabilities of natural systems besides being highly robust. However, the system lacks in terms of matching motility and complex shapes with holes, thereby limiting practical similarity to self-assembly in living systems.

Exploring Programmable Self-Assembly in Non-DNA based Molecular Computing

2013-09-25 · German Terrazas, Hector Zenil, Natalio Krasnogor

Self-assembly is a phenomenon observed in nature at all scales where autonomous entities build complex structures, without external influences nor centralised master plan. Modelling such entities and programming correct …

Agentic Language-to-Objective Synthesis for Optofluidic Assembly

2026-05-26 · Ivan Saraev, Elena Erben, Weida Liao, Fan Nan 외 arxiv

Light-based advanced manufacturing increasingly requires programmable, closed-loop tools that translate human design intent into executable operations at small length scales. Yet a key bottleneck persists across robotic …

Design and Control of Modular Magnetic Millirobots for Multimodal Locomotion and Shape Reconfiguration

2026-02-22 · Erik Garcia Oyono, Jialin Lin, Dandan Zhang arxiv

Modular small-scale robots offer the potential for on-demand assembly and disassembly, enabling task-specific adaptation in dynamic and constrained environments. However, existing modular magnetic platforms often depend …

Neural Schrödinger Bridge with Sinkhorn Losses: Application to Data-driven Minimum Effort Control of Colloidal Self-assembly

2023-07-26 · Iman Nodozi, Charlie Yan, Mira Khare, Abhishek Halder 외

We show that the minimum effort control of colloidal self-assembly can be naturally formulated in the order-parameter space as a generalized Schr\"{o}dinger bridge problem -- a class of fixed-horizon stochastic optimal c…

Improving Failure Prediction in Aircraft Fastener Assembly Using Synthetic Data in Imbalanced Datasets

2025-05-06 · Gustavo J. G. Lahr, Ricardo V. Godoy, Thiago H. Segreto, Jose O. Savazzi 외

Automating aircraft manufacturing still relies heavily on human labor due to the complexity of the assembly processes and customization requirements. One key challenge is achieving precise positioning, especially for lar…
