The Origin of Quantum Mechanical Statistics: Some Insights from the Research on Human Language

2024-07-20 · Diederik Aerts, Jonito Aerts Arguēlles, Lester Beltran, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi, Sandro Sozzo

Identical systems, or entities, are indistinguishable in quantum mechanics (QM), and the symmetrization postulate rules the possible statistical distributions of a large number of identical quantum entities. However, a thorough analysis on the historical development of QM attributes the origin of quantum statistics, in particular, Bose-Einstein statistics, to a lack of statistical independence of the micro-states of identical quantum entities. We have recently identified Bose-Einstein statistics in the combination of words in large texts, as a consequence of the entanglement created by the meaning carried by words when they combine in human language. Relying on this investigation, we put forward the hypothesis that entanglement, hence the lack of statistical independence, is due to a mechanism of contextual updating, which provides deeper reasons for the appearance of Bose-Einstein statistics in human language. However, this investigation also contributes to a better understanding of the origin of quantum mechanical statistics in physics. Finally, we provide new insights into the intrinsically random behaviour of microscopic entities that is generally assumed within classical statistical mechanics.

Identifying Quantum Mechanical Statistics in Italian Corpora

2024-12-10 · Diederik Aerts, Jonito Aerts Arguëlles, Lester Beltran, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi 외

We present a theoretical and empirical investigation of the statistical behaviour of the words in a text produced by human language. To this aim, we analyse the word distribution of various texts of Italian language sele…

The Quantum Nature of Identity in Human Thought: Bose-Einstein Statistics for Conceptual Indistinguishability

2014-10-24 · Diederik Aerts, Sandro Sozzo, Tomas Veloz

Increasing experimental evidence shows that humans combine concepts in a way that violates the rules of classical logic and probability theory. On the other hand, mathematical models inspired by the formalism of quantum …

Are Words the Quanta of Human Language? Extending the Domain of Quantum Cognition

2021-10-10 · Diederik Aerts, Lester Beltran

In previous research, we showed that 'texts that tell a story' exhibit a statistical structure that is not Maxwell-Boltzmann but Bose-Einstein. Our explanation is that this is due to the presence of 'indistinguishability…

Mental intervention in quantum scattering of ions without violating conservation laws

2024-06-12 · Johann Summhammer

There have been several proposals in the past that mind might influence matter by exploiting the randomness of quantum events. Here, calculations are presented how mental selection of quantum mechanical scattering direct…
