Thread Reconstruction in Conversational Data using Neural Coherence Models

2017-07-24 · Dat Tien Nguyen, Shafiq Joty, Basma El Amel Boussaha, Maarten de Rijke

Discussion forums are an important source of information. They are often used to answer specific questions a user might have and to discover more about a topic of interest. Discussions in these forums may evolve in intricate ways, making it difficult for users to follow the flow of ideas. We propose a novel approach for automatically identifying the underlying thread structure of a forum discussion. Our approach is based on a neural model that computes coherence scores of possible reconstructions and then selects the highest scoring, i.e., the most coherent one. Preliminary experiments demonstrate promising results outperforming a number of strong baseline methods.

Coherence Modeling of Asynchronous Conversations: A Neural Entity Grid Approach

2018-05-06 · ACL 2018 7 · Tasnim Mohiuddin, Shafiq Joty, Dat Tien Nguyen

We propose a novel coherence model for written asynchronous conversations (e.g., forums, emails), and show its applications in coherence assessment and thread reconstruction tasks. We conduct our research in two steps. F…

Conversational Structure Aware and Context Sensitive Topic Model for Online Discussions

2020-02-06 · Yingcheng Sun, Kenneth Loparo, Richard Kolacinski

Millions of online discussions are generated everyday on social media platforms. Topic modelling is an efficient way of better understanding large text datasets at scale. Conventional topic models have had limited succes…

Leveraging Large Language Models to Identify Conversation Threads in Collaborative Learning

2025-10-26 · Prerna Ravi, Dong Won Lee, Beatriz Flamia, Jasmine David 외 arxiv

Understanding how ideas develop and flow in small-group conversations is critical for analyzing collaborative learning. A key structural feature of these interactions is threading, the way discourse talk naturally organi…

Generating and Evaluating Summaries for Partial Email Threads: Conversational Bayesian Surprise and Silver Standards

2017-08-01 · WS 2017 8 · Jordon Johnson, Vaden Masrani, Giuseppe Carenini, Raymond Ng

We define and motivate the problem of summarizing partial email threads. This problem introduces the challenge of generating reference summaries for partial threads when human annotation is only available for the threads…

Conversational AI Threads for Visualizing Multidimensional Datasets

2023-11-09 · Matt-Heun Hong, Anamaria Crisan

Generative Large Language Models (LLMs) show potential in data analysis, yet their full capabilities remain uncharted. Our work explores the capabilities of LLMs for creating and refining visualizations via conversationa…
