Unveiling Anomalous Edges and Nominal Connectivity of Attributed Networks

2021-04-17 · Konstantinos D. Polyzos, Costas Mavromatis, Vassilis N. Ioannidis, Georgios B. Giannakis

Uncovering anomalies in attributed networks has recently gained popularity due to its importance in unveiling outliers and flagging adversarial behavior in a gamut of data and network science applications including {the Internet of Things (IoT)}, finance, security, to list a few. The present work deals with uncovering anomalous edges in attributed graphs using two distinct formulations with complementary strengths, which can be easily distributed, and hence efficient. The first relies on decomposing the graph data matrix into low rank plus sparse components to markedly improve performance. The second broadens the scope of the first by performing robust recovery of the unperturbed graph, which enhances the anomaly identification performance. The novel methods not only capture anomalous edges linking nodes of different communities, but also spurious connections between any two nodes with different features. Experiments conducted on real and synthetic data corroborate the effectiveness of both methods in the anomaly identification task.

EdgeCentric: Anomaly Detection in Edge-Attributed Networks

2015-11-18 · Shah Neil, Beutel Alex, Hooi Bryan, Akoglu Leman 외

Given a network with attributed edges, how can we identify anomalous behavior? Networks with edge attributes are commonplace in the real world. For example, edges in e-commerce networks often indicate how users rated pro…

GraphSAC: Detecting anomalies in large-scale graphs

2019-10-21 · Vassilis N. Ioannidis, Dimitris Berberidis, Georgios B. Giannakis

A graph-based sampling and consensus (GraphSAC) approach is introduced to effectively detect anomalous nodes in large-scale graphs. Existing approaches rely on connectivity and attributes of all nodes to assign an anomal…

Anomalous Edge Detection in Edge Exchangeable Social Network Models

2021-09-27 · Rui Luo, Buddhika Nettasinghe, Vikram Krishnamurthy

This paper studies detecting anomalous edges in directed graphs that model social networks. We exploit edge exchangeability as a criterion for distinguishing anomalous edges from normal edges. Then we present an anomaly …

SEDANSPOT: Detecting Anomalies in Edge Streams

2018-11-20 · ICDM 2018 11 · Dhivya Eswaran, Christos Faloutsos

Given a stream of edges from a time-evolving (un)weighted (un)directed graph, we consider the problem of detecting anomalous edges in near real-time using sublinear memory. We propose SEDANSPOT, a principled randomized…
