Visual art inspired by the collective feeding behavior of sand-bubbler crabs

2017-09-01 · Hendrik Richter

Sand--bubblers are crabs of the genera Dotilla and Scopimera which are known to produce remarkable patterns and structures at tropical beaches. From these pattern-making abilities, we may draw inspiration for digital visual art. A simple mathematical model is proposed and an algorithm is designed that may create such sand-bubbler patterns artificially. In addition, design parameters to modify the patterns are identified and analyzed by computational aesthetic measures. Finally, an extension of the algorithm is discussed that may enable controlling and guiding generative evolution of the art-making process.

Analyzing symmetry and symmetry breaking by computational aesthetic measures

2019-10-15 · Hendrik Richter

We study creating and analyzing symmetry and broken symmetry in digital art. Our focus is not so much on computer-generating artistic images, but rather on analyzing concepts and templates for incorporating symmetry and …

Control for Multifunctionality: Bioinspired Control Based on Feeding in Aplysia californica

2020-08-11 · Victoria A. Webster-Wood, Jeffrey P. Gill, Peter J. Thomas, Hillel J. Chiel

Animals exhibit remarkable feats of behavioral flexibility and multifunctional control that remain challenging for robotic systems. The neural and morphological basis of multifunctionality in animals can provide a source…

Intelligent Collective Escape of Swarm Robots Based on a Novel Fish-inspired Self-adaptive Approach with Neurodynamic Models

2024-02-06 · Junfei Li, Simon X. Yang

Fish schools present high-efficiency group behaviors through simple individual interactions to collective migration and dynamic escape from the predator. The school behavior of fish is usually a good inspiration to desig…

Observer-dependent Collective Behavior For Biologically-inspired Processing Models

2020-10-09 · Bradly Alicea, Jesse Parent, Ujjwal Singh

The role of observers in computational learning models is rarely discussed but offers a unique perspective on the practice of analysis and holistic interpretation of data. In this paper, we present an observer-dependent…

Leader-Follower Neural Networks with Local Error Signals Inspired by Complex Collectives

2023-10-11 · Chenzhong Yin, Mingxi Cheng, Xiongye Xiao, Xinghe Chen 외

The collective behavior of a network with heterogeneous, resource-limited information processing units (e.g., group of fish, flock of birds, or network of neurons) demonstrates high self-organization and complexity. Thes…
