What does photon energy tell us about cellphone safety?

2017-04-25

It has been argued that cellphones are safe because a single microwave photon does not have enough energy to break a chemical bond. We show that cellphone technology operates in the classical wave limit, not the single photon limit. Based on energy densities relative to thermal energy, we estimate thresholds at which effects might be expected. These seem to correspond somewhat with many experimental observations. Revised with appendix responding to critique published by B. Leikind.

What does the free energy principle tell us about the brain?

2019-01-23 · Samuel J. Gershman

The free energy principle has been proposed as a unifying account of brain function. It is closely related, and in some cases subsumes, earlier unifying ideas such as Bayesian inference, predictive coding, and active lea…

Deep learning techniques for energy clustering in the CMS ECAL

2022-04-21 · Davide Valsecchi

The reconstruction of electrons and photons in CMS depends on topological clustering of the energy deposited by an incident particle in different crystals of the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL). These clusters are for…

Three-Photon Bayesian Imaging of Ortho-Positronium

2026-07-30 · L. Raczynski, W. Krzemien, A. Coussat, M. Bala 외 arxiv

PET provides functional images relying on two-photon coincidences from positron-electron annihilation. In human tissue, about 40\% of annihilations are preceded by Ps formation, of which o-Ps component partially decays i…

Blankets, Heat, and Why Free Energy Has Not Illuminated the Workings of the Brain

2022-01-05 · Donald Spector, Daniel Graham

What can we hope to learn about brains from the free energy principle? In adopting the "primordial soup" physical model, Bruineberg et al. perpetuate the unsupported notion that the free energy principle has a meaningful…

Single photon in hierarchical architecture for physical reinforcement learning: Photon intelligence
