When Does a Mixture of Products Contain a Product of Mixtures?

2012-06-02 · Guido F. Montufar, Jason Morton

We derive relations between theoretical properties of restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs), popular machine learning models which form the building blocks of deep learning models, and several natural notions from discrete mathematics and convex geometry. We give implications and equivalences relating RBM-representable probability distributions, perfectly reconstructible inputs, Hamming modes, zonotopes and zonosets, point configurations in hyperplane arrangements, linear threshold codes, and multi-covering numbers of hypercubes. As a motivating application, we prove results on the relative representational power of mixtures of product distributions and products of mixtures of pairs of product distributions (RBMs) that formally justify widely held intuitions about distributed representations. In particular, we show that a mixture of products requiring an exponentially larger number of parameters is needed to represent the probability distributions which can be obtained as products of mixtures.

A Preliminary Study for Identification of Additive Manufactured Objects with Transmitted Images

2020-05-25 · Kenta Yamamoto, Ryota Kawamura, Kazuki Takazawa, Hiroyuki Osone 외

Additive manufacturing has the potential to become a standard method for manufacturing products, and product information is indispensable for the item distribution system. While most products are given barcodes to the ex…

Hadamard Extensions and the Identification of Mixtures of Product Distributions

2021-01-27 · Spencer L. Gordon, Leonard J. Schulman

The Hadamard Extension of a matrix is the matrix consisting of all Hadamard products of subsets of its rows. This construction arises in the context of identifying a mixture of product distributions on binary random vari…

Mixture Density Networks for Classification with an Application to Product Bundling

2024-02-08 · Narendhar Gugulothu, Sanjay P. Bhat, Tejas Bodas

While mixture density networks (MDNs) have been extensively used for regression tasks, they have not been used much for classification tasks. One reason for this is that the usability of MDNs for classification is not cl…

CER: Complementary Entity Recognition via Knowledge Expansion on Large Unlabeled Product Reviews

2016-12-04 · Hu Xu, Sihong Xie, Lei Shu, Philip S. Yu

Product reviews contain a lot of useful information about product features and customer opinions. One important product feature is the complementary entity (products) that may potentially work together with the reviewed …

MetaSplit: Meta-Split Network for Limited-Stock Product Recommendation

2024-03-11 · Wenhao Wu, Jialiang Zhou, Ailong He, Shuguang Han 외

Compared to business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce systems, consumer-to-consumer (C2C) e-commerce platforms usually encounter the limited-stock problem, that is, a product can only be sold one time in a C2C system. This p…
