An image segmentation algorithm for measurement of flotation froth bubble size distributions
The bubble size distribution at the froth surface of a flotation cell is closely related to the process condi- tion and performance. The flotation performance can be reasonably predicted through continuous mea- suring the bubble size distribution by a machine vision system. In this work a new watershed algorithm based on whole and sub-image classification techniques is introduced and successfully validated by sev- eral laboratory and industrial scale froth images taken under different process conditions. The results indicate that the developed algorithms, in particular the sub-image classification based segmentation algorithm, can accurately and reliably identify the individual small and large bubbles in the actual froth images, which is often problematic.

Physics-Informed Machine Learning for Grade Prediction in Froth Flotation
In this paper, physics-informed neural network models are developed to predict the concentrate gold grade in froth flotation cells. Accurate prediction of concentrate grades is important for the automatic control and opt…
Physics-informed machine learningExperimental implementation of an economic model predictive control for froth flotation
We present the implementation of a novel economic model predictive control (E-MPC) strategy for froth flotation, the largest tonnage mineral separation process. A previously calibrated and validated dynamic model incorpo…

This study presents a grey-box recursive identification technique to estimate key parameters in a mineral flotation process across two scenarios. The method is applied to a nonlinear physics-based dynamic model validated…
A Formal Evaluation of PSNR as Quality Measurement Parameter for Image Segmentation Algorithms
Quality evaluation of image segmentation algorithms are still subject of debate and research. Currently, there is no generic metric that could be applied to any algorithm reliably. This article contains an evaluation for…
Image SegmentationSegmentationSemantic SegmentationGraph clustering, variational image segmentation methods and Hough transform scale detection for object measurement in images
We consider the problem of scale detection in images where a region of interest is present together with a measurement tool (e.g. a ruler). For the segmentation part, we focus on the graph based method by Flenner and Ber…
