Can 5G Coexist with Satellite Uplink in 28 GHz Band?

2024-02-09 · Bryce Jeffrey, Seungmo Kim

5G standalone (SA) rollout is right around the corner. 28 GHz band is considered as one of the main spectrum bands for the 5G SA in many countries. However, the band has already been occupied by uplink of the fixed satellite service (FSS). Due to high equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) adopted by the FSS, the interference that FSS may cause into 5G is garnering research interest. This research aims to establish an analytical framework that quantifies the FSS-to-5G interference.

Terrestrial-Satellite Spectrum Sharing in the Upper Mid-Band with Interference Nulling

2023-11-21 · Seongjoon Kang, Giovanni Geraci, Marco Mezzavilla, Sundeep Rangan

The growing demand for broader bandwidth in cellular networks has turned the upper mid-band (7-24 GHz) into a focal point for expansion. However, the integration of terrestrial cellular and incumbent satellite services, …

Spectrum Coexistence of Satellite-borne Passive Radiometry and Terrestrial Next-G Networks

2024-02-12 · Mohammad Koosha, Nicholas Mastronarde

Spectrum coexistence between terrestrial Next-G cellular networks and space-borne remote sensing (RS) is now gaining attention. One major question is how this would impact RS equipment. In this study, we develop a framew…

Interference-Aware Multiuser Hybrid Precoding for Coexistence with LEO Satellite Communication

2025-06-03 · Nima Razavi, Murat Bayraktar, Nuria Gonzalez Prelcic, Robert W. Heath Jr

Interference from terrestrial networks can reduce the communication rate for low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites in the upper mid-band. To coexist in frequency, MIMO precoding can be used to reduce the signal that impinges …

Coexistence of Satellite-borne Passive Radiometry and Terrestrial NextG Wireless Networks in the Restricted L-Band

2023-12-13 · Mohammad Koosha, Nicholas Mastronarde

The rapid growth of active wireless communications technologies has fostered research on spectrum coexistence worldwide. One idea that is gaining attention is sharing frequency bands solely devoted to passive application…
