Estimating the Value of Evidence-Based Decision Making

2023-06-21 · Alberto Abadie, Anish Agarwal, Guido Imbens, Siwei Jia, James McQueen, Serguei Stepaniants

Business/policy decisions are often based on evidence from randomized experiments and observational studies. In this article we propose an empirical framework to estimate the value of evidence-based decision making (EBDM) and the return on the investment in statistical precision.

Enhancing Decision-Making for LLM Agents via Step-Level Q-Value Models

2024-09-14 · Yuanzhao Zhai, Tingkai Yang, Kele Xu, Feng Dawei 외

Agents significantly enhance the capabilities of standalone Large Language Models (LLMs) by perceiving environments, making decisions, and executing actions. However, LLM agents still face challenges in tasks that requir…

Decentralized Decision-Making in Retail Chains: Evidence from Inventory Management

2023-07-09 · Victor Aguirregabiria, Francis Guiton

This paper investigates the impact of decentralizing inventory decision-making in multi-establishment firms using data from a large retail chain. Analyzing two years of daily data, we find significant heterogeneity among…

Assessing model error in counterfactual worlds

2025-11-30 · Emily Howerton, Justin Lessler arxiv

Counterfactual scenario modeling exercises that ask "what would happen if?" are one of the most common ways we plan for the future. Despite their ubiquity in planning and decision making, scenario projections are rarely …

Worst-Case Regret Bounds for Exploration via Randomized Value Functions

2019-06-07 · NeurIPS 2019 12 · Daniel Russo

This paper studies a recent proposal to use randomized value functions to drive exploration in reinforcement learning. These randomized value functions are generated by injecting random noise into the training data, maki…
