Making a swim central pattern generator out of latent parabolic bursters

2015-03-25

We study the rhythmogenesis of oscillatory patterns emerging in network motifs composed of inhibitory coupled tonic spiking neurons represented by the Plant model of R15 nerve cells. Such motifs are argued to be used as building blocks for a larger central pattern generator network controlling swim locomotion of sea slug Melibe leonina.

A Spiking Central Pattern Generator for the control of a simulated lamprey robot running on SpiNNaker and Loihi neuromorphic boards

2021-01-18 · Emmanouil Angelidis, Emanuel Buchholz, Jonathan Patrick Arreguit O'Neil, Alexis Rougè 외

Central Pattern Generators (CPGs) models have been long used to investigate both the neural mechanisms that underlie animal locomotion as well as a tool for robotic research. In this work we propose a spiking CPG neural …

Learning swimming escape patterns for larval fish under energy constraints

2021-05-03 · Ioannis Mandralis, Pascal Weber, Guido Novati, Petros Koumoutsakos

Swimming organisms can escape their predators by creating and harnessing unsteady flow fields through their body motions. Stochastic optimization and flow simulations have identified escape patterns that are consistent w…

Flagellar swimmers oscillate between pusher- and puller-type swimming

2015-04-22

Self-propulsion of cellular microswimmers generates flow signatures, commonly classified as pusher- and puller-type, which characterize hydrodynamic interactions with other cells or boundaries. Using experimentally measu…

Optimal control of a swimming robot based on Purcell's microswimmer model

2026-08-18 · Noam Berkovich Lahav, Oren Wiezel, Yizhar Or arxiv

Purcell's swimmer is a well-known planar model of a swimming microorganism, governed by low Reynolds number hydrodynamics, which is comprised of three rigid links connected by actuated rotary joints. This model has been …
