Optimal Lockdown to Manage an Epidemic

2022-01-18 · Jagtap Kalyani Devendra, Kundan Kandhway

We formulate an optimal control problem to determine the lockdown policy to curb an epidemic where other control measures are not available yet. We present a unified framework to model the epidemic and economy that allows us to study the effect of lockdown on both of them together. The objective function considers cost of deaths and infections during the epidemic, as well as economic losses due to reduced interactions due to lockdown. We tune the parameters of our model for Covid-19 epidemic and the economies of Burundi, India, and the United States (the low, medium and high income countries). We study the optimal lockdown policies and effect of system parameters for all of these countries. Our framework and results are useful for policymakers to design optimal lockdown strategies that account for both epidemic related infections and deaths, and economic losses due to lockdown.

COVID-19 Pandemic Cyclic Lockdown Optimization Using Reinforcement Learning

2020-09-10 · Mauricio Arango, Lyudmil Pelov

This work examines the use of reinforcement learning (RL) to optimize cyclic lockdowns, which is one of the methods available for control of the COVID-19 pandemic. The problem is structured as an optimal control system f…

Analysis of the tradeoff between health and economic impacts of the Covid-19 epidemic

2021-04-12 · Samson Lasaulce, Chao Zhang, Vineeth Varma, Irinel Constantin Morarescu

Various measures have been taken in different countries to mitigate the Covid-19 epidemic. But, throughout the world, many citizens don't understand well how these measures are taken and even question the decisions taken…

Rapidly evaluating lockdown strategies using spectral analysis: the cycles behind new daily COVID-19 cases and what happens after lockdown

2020-04-16

Spectral analysis characterises oscillatory time series behaviours such as cycles, but accurate estimation requires reasonable numbers of observations. Current COVID-19 time series for many countries are short: pre- and …

Incentives, lockdown, and testing: from Thucydides's analysis to the COVID-19 pandemic

2020-09-01 · Emma Hubert, Thibaut Mastrolia, Dylan Possamaï, Xavier Warin

In this work, we provide a general mathematical formalism to study the optimal control of an epidemic, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, via incentives to lockdown and testing. In particular, we model the interplay between …

Optimal Lockdown Management using Short Term COVID-19 Prediction Model

2022-03-07 · Shuvrangshu Jana, Debasish Ghose

This paper proposes optimal lockdown management policies based on short-term prediction of active COVID-19 confirmed cases to ensure the availability of critical medical resources. The optimal time to start the lockdown …
